Day 3 – Phnom Penh – Fly to Siem Reap

After being warmly welcomed by your local guide, travel to your hotel for check in. Later on transfer to The Baray occidental lake made in the 11th century thanks to the construction of huge dams (2.3km by 8km) around it. It perfectly illustrates the magnitude of the work undertaken to irrigate the land around Angkor. We suggest you to stop to relax with tasty canapés and signature cocktails under our elegant canopy setting. Far from the tumult of the temples, the quietness and enchantment of the site are a wonderful way to end the day. Back to the hotel. You will be staying at the Raffles Grand in Siem Reap in a state pool view room.

Day 4 – Siem Reap – picnic lunch at temple

This morning, visit the Great City of Angkor Thom beginning at the south gate and the famous Bayon temple of the 12th and 13th centuries. Dedicated to Buddhism, Bayon consists of 54 gigantic towers featuring 216 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara. Then, cross to the Elephant Terrace which, at 350m long, used as a giant reviewing stand for public ceremonies and served as a base for the king’s grand audience hall. After, move to the raised terrace of the Leper King, from the 12th century, which bears many beautifully sculptured Apsara statues. This observance will allow you to experience a remarkable Buddhist ceremony, in one of Siem Reap’s pagodas or temples. Before the ceremony, your guide will reveal some interesting facts about Buddhism in Cambodia, the daily life of the monks, and the disciplines they observe. Then the ceremony will begin and you will be blessed by the monks who will chant in their holy language and sprinkle you with their holy water. ( This really is something special on your luxury Cambodia honeymoon )  After giving a donation to the monks, a piece of red Cambodian string will be tied around your right wrist to represent the fading away of negative thoughts and deeds from your life and to bring luck, health and protection in return! After the ceremony is complete, you’ll have a chance to chat with the monks and exchange some thoughts and ideas with the help of your tour guide as translator. From the temple, transfer by private vehicle (or possibly by cow carts) to a remote, untouched temple where your private picnic lunch is set up and waiting for you. After a delicious lunch, relax under the trees with a soothing foot massage. In the afternoon, leave for Banteay Srei where one of the most impressive jewels of Khmer art exists. Erected in the 10th century, this small pink sandstone temple is known as the Citadel of Women. It houses some remarkably well conserved sculptured lintels and was made famous by Andre Malraux in the early 20th century when, in 1923, he returned the Apsara heads that he had previously removed.
