Tasmania Self-Drive Holiday Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive Hobart – Lake St Clair
On arrival into Hobart collect your rental vehicle and drive 3.5 hours to Pumphouse Point, a boutique wilderness retreat on stunning Lake St Clair. Choose to stay in either The Pumphouse located 250m out on the lake, surrounded by nature at her most wild; or at The Shorehouse, located at the lake’s edge, an original Hydro substation that presents a classic art-deco style, complete with original exterior and magnificent foyer stairwell. Your room has a gourmet larder filled with Tasmanian produce or you may like to pick up some local produce on your drive to enjoy at leisure in your room.

Day 2 – Lake St Clair
Today is at your leisure to soak up the activities on Lake St Clair, whether it’s one of the extensive nature walks in the area, fishing or bike riding. This evening enjoy a home-style shared communal dining experience for dinner.

Day 3 – Lake St Clair – Freycinet National Park
Today, drive the East Coast, home to the majestic granite mountains, azure bays and white sand beaches of Freycinet National Park. Your base for exploring this region is the renowned Saffire Freycinet, an architecturally award-winning lodge set on Coles Bay which takes its inspiration from the earthy colours of the peninsula. It’s also home to Palate at Saffire, one of Tasmania’s most exclusive restaurants.

Day 4 – Freycinet National Park
Saffire Freycinet is set in a beautiful coastal reserve with awe-inspiring views. Absorb the magical atmosphere of the distant Hazards while enjoying a hamper of quality Tasmanian produce.

Day 5 – Freycinet National

Day 6 – Freycinet – Hobart
Leave Freycinet and head south to Hobart. Arrive at the Museum of Old & New Art (MONA) in time for a privatecurator-led tour of the collection. Comprising an eclectic and sometimes confronting assortment of antiquities, modern and contemporary art, this is the largest privately-owned collection in the southern hemisphere and one of its most thought provoking. After the tour enjoy a three course degustation lunch with matching wines at The Source restaurant and wine tastings. The afternoon make your way to your Hobart accommodation.

Day 7 – Hobart – Huon Valley
Today discover the culinary delights of the Huon Valley on a private tour. Leaving the city behind, head south west towards the beautiful Huon Valley and the small town of Kettering. Kettering is the boarding point for the ferry to Bruny Island which is famous for its stunning scenery as well as its fresh food and produce. First stop is the Bruny Island Cheese Company before continuing on to Adventure Bay, which was named after Captain Tobias Furneaux’s ship ‘The Adventure’ in 1773. Allow the peacefulness of the Huon Valley and the vineyards to entice you to relax for a few hours over a locally-sourced lunch in a tranquil setting.
