Welcome to our 7 day Highlights of New Zealand tour which will give you a great overview of the amazingly diverse country. This is a perfect add-on to a tailor-made holiday to Australia and as part of an extended around the world ticket. We will arrange all international flights and alternative travel arrangements.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Kia Ora & Welcome to New Zealand!
On arrival at Auckland International airport you will be met by your guide and transferred by private vehicle to your accommodation where your room has been reserved for immediate check in. The rest of the day is at your leisure.Ideally situated in the heart of Auckland’s CBD, with many of the City’s most impressive attractions and eateries literally on their doorstep, the SKYCITY Grand Hotel offers guests a truly five-star experience. Whether your stay is for business or pleasure, their friendly and attentive team is here to attend to your every need.

Newly refurbished, each room is spacious and airy with a large window allowing views and light.

Day 2 – Auckland
This morning after breakfast meet your driver/guide in the hotel lobby and depart on your full day scheduled/shared Auckland Maori tour with a cultural performance. Experience Auckland on a personal smallgroup tour by exploring some important historic sites and learn more about the fascinating Maori culture and history along the way. Included in the tour is entry to Auckland Museum with its Maori & Polynesian Gallery, plus entry to the Maori Cultural Performance, which showcases Maori performing art and the famous Maori postural war dance – the haka!This tour features Auckland’s well known cityscapes with its numerous volcanoes, as well as the amazing West Coast. You will take in the magnificent views of Rangitoto Island in the Hauraki Gulf as well as the Auckland Domain and the boutique suburb of Parnell with its many colonial homes. The tour also includes Titirangi (Maori for Fringe of Heaven), an artists’ enclave on the Manukau Harbour on the way to Auckland’s West Coast toward Te Wao Nui o Tiriwa (the great forest of the Maori Ancestor Tiriwa – a descendent of the great ancestral Tainui Waka / canoe).You will visit Arataki Visitor Centre at the gateway to Auckland’s famous West Coast with its soaring cliffs, roaring surf and spectacular, volcanic black sand beaches, these magnificent ocean vistas will delight along with the unique indigenous flora and fauna in an ancient native rainforest including the New Zealand Christmas Trees (Pohutukawa) and the iconic Kauri Trees.This tour includes lunch and concludes at your accommodation.

Day 3 – Auckland – Waiheke Island – Auckland
This morning take a 15 minute walk to the Historical Auckland Ferry terminal to connect with the scheduled ferry to Waiheke Island.Depart onboard a scheduled ferry cruise to Waiheke Island, a journey of approximately thirty minutes crossing the picturesque Waitemata Harbour. Disembark at Matiatia Wharf on Waiheke Island and meet your guide for a scheduled/shared gourmet food & wine tour of Waiheke Island. Enjoy succulent fresh oysters, award-winning olive oil and other locally-produced specialty foods, accompanied by wines from some of the Island’s top boutique vineyards. Your guide will provide an entertaining and informative commentary along the way.You will visit an award-winning olive oil mill, followed by two vineyards, each offering a range of gourmet tastes to accompany their wines. Treats may include oysters straight from Te Matuku Bay, wild honey, the famous local green herb spread and artisan cheeses. On Saturdays, your tour may also include a visit to the Waiheke Market.Afterwards, enjoy a platter lunch at one of our top vineyard restaurants. After lunch you will be returned to the ferry terminal and enjoy a leisurely scheduled ferry cruise back to Auckland.

Once the ferry has arrived in Auckland, take a short walk back to your accommodation.

Day 4 – Auckland – Queenstown
Meet your chauffeur in the lobby and transfer by private vehicle to the airport to connect with your domestic flight to Queenstown. On arrival in Queenstown you will be met and taken on an orientation tour of the Wakatipu Basin before being transferred to your accommodation.Queenstown is situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by rolling farmlands and mountains. As well as being a base for countless outdoor activities Queenstown is well known for its shopping and recreation.

Showcasing breath taking panoramic lake and mountain views, The Rees Hotel Queenstown is a sophisticated five star property conveniently located just a gentle lakeside stroll from Queenstown’s town centre. Day 5 – Queenstown – Milford Sound – Queenstown
Meet your chauffeur in the lobby and transfer to Queenstown airport to connect with your Milford Sound Tour. During the 35 minute scenic flight (weather dependant) by fixed wing aircraft, take in expansive views of golden tussocked high country and the upper reaches of Lake Wakatipu and fly over the snowcapped Southern Alps. A hidden landscape unfolds below revealing glacial lakes, waterfalls, densely forested valleys and cloud-piercing summits.On arrival at Milford Sound, join a spectacular one hour 40 minute cruise to the mouth of the fiord on a spacious, modern vessel with excellent viewing opportunities. Keep a look out for seals basking on the rocks, dolphins and penguins. Enjoy scenic highlights such as Mitre Peak and Pembroke Glacier.

Informative commentary explains the history and highlights points of interest during the cruise. Following the cruise, transfer back to Milford airport for a scenic flight back to Queenstown. On arrival back in Queenstown you will be transferred back to your accommodation.

Day 6 – Queenstown
Make your way to the Queenstown Information Centre and depart on a scheduled/shared full day Dart River’s Funyak trip, an amazing journey deep into the heart of the world-renowned Mt Aspiring National Park. Get up- close with nature with a gentle paddle on crystal clear waters. Combine wilderness jet boating with unique’Funyak’ inflatable canoes for a fun way to explore the Dart River as well as hidden side streams, rock pools and dramatic chasms.Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this stunning area at your own pace as you float downstream on sparkling water, then enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch before heading past ‘Paradise’ and on to Glenorchy. Then travel a back-country route passing by locations used in movies to illustrate Middle Earth.Overnight: The Rees Hotel

Day 7 – Depart Queenstown
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before being driven by private vehicle to Queenstown Airport where you will embark on your scheduled flight to your next destination.Meal Plan: B
